Rock Physical Characteristics and Economic Evaluation of Low-Resistivity Clastic Reservoirs in the Paleogene of Tahe Area

Abstract:This study focuses on the Paleogene low-resistivity reservoirs in the Tahe area, characterized by weak consolidation, complex lithology, and strong heterogeneity. To address the core issues of unclear mechanisms causing low resistivity and limited evaluation accuracy due to incomplete well logging suites, systematic rock physics experiments, well logging numerical simulations, and economic evaluations were conducted. Based on core CT scanning, XRD, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and other experiments, it was revealed that clay additional conductivity and high irreducible water saturation are the primary geological causes of the low resistivity in the reservoirs. A lithology identification model based on BO-Catboost optimized ensemble learning was developed, effectively improving the accuracy of identifying complex lithologies. By incorporating 2D/3D forward modeling of array induction logging, an integrated "borehole-invasion" correction method was developed to accurately determine the true formation resistivity. Furthermore, a three-porosity-component saturation model was optimized, and a fluid identification crossplot integrating multiple parameters such as resistivity, NMR, and acoustic data was established. Economic evaluation indicates that under current technical costs and market conditions, large-scale commercial development of these reservoirs is economically unfavorable, characterized by a long static payback period and a negative net present value. However, the economics are highly sensitive to natural gas prices and single-well production rates. Future development opportunities rely on geological-engineering integrated technological breakthroughs to achieve "cost reduction and efficiency enhancement." The research findings provide key technical support for fine well log interpretation and development decision-making of low-resistivity complex reservoirs in the Tahe area.
